Flowers In Flames is a band from Cleveland, Ohio (USA) they have some unique combination of musical styles, going from Gothic Rock, Post Punk, a pinch of Death Rock, and… Psychodelia. Here we have male and female voices and they have been well placed in the songs; depending of the mood and the atmosphere in them. In few words, their sound can be described as Gothic-Post Punk heavily influenced by Christian Death; especially the Christian Death of albums like “Catastrophe Ballet” and “Ashes”.  They have their own identity and have a very special vibe. Their psychedelic songs are a very strong contrast with the Gothic Post Punk sound, and they are something unexpected in a record of this style. “Introspection” comes with a very special charm; it’s warm and quite melodic, with lots of emotion. “Shadows and darkness” is really energetic with male vocals and with a clear influence of Christian Death.”Third Wave” is not about the third wave of Gothic; it’s about psychodelia. This track sounds very in the style of the “New psychodelia” from the 80’s. Being honest, I must say that psychodelia is not my thing. This is very melodic and totally retro.”Terrify Sin” bring us back to the present era with the school and influence of Mr. Rick Agnew in the guitar department. The male and female voices singing together, makes me think in Gitane and Rozz in the days of “Catastrophe Ballet”. This is a well-balanced track with good strength and melody. ”All the glitter” has the same good crafting of the previous track: the intensity increases with the rhythm, leading to some great choruses; like it! “Last days” has psychedelic atmosphere, and acoustic sound. This one gives variety to the album.”Cursed with a flame” has driving rhythm that will make you move, quite danceable.”Verper” is a storm of rhythm and guitars. “Golden town” is a point in which their style and the psychedelic feel are doing a very unique fusion.”Stare at the stars” closes this record with vertiginous rhythms and melodic passages; they are well combined in this final track. Flowers In Flames has good ideas and they are well grounded when doing their music, they have a very unique combination of sounds and musical influences. If You like Mephisto Walz with their female vocalists or Christian Death (“Catastrophe Ballet” era) you will enjoy this one. This record is really worth to give it a try.
