Sorry, Heels - Distances EP (2014)

Sorry, Heels
Distances EP
Sorry, Heels

Last year we received and reviewed the debut EP of Sorry, Heels “Wasted”; and we met to a band which displays this fresh combination of Post Punk, Shoegaze, 90’s Alternative Rock, and this time we can add to the mix some Dream Pop textures. Their music is very pleasant to the ear; they bring us a very relaxing and tasteful experience here. Sorry, Heels is developing a very interesting music style, and this band has a well-defined identity: Just check the artwork and the music; this is really classy stuff. Here we can perceive passion for creating music, and honesty. Sorry, Heels is a band with undeniable talent; they have their own style, awesome songs, and they are more than ready to create a great debut album. And I really hope to see it in the near future.

“Were The Heart Is” comes with an ethereal Dream Pop sound, and this atmosphere is seductive. This dream like mood is followed by strong guitar tones and passion. It is like fire and water; there’s a total duality here. “The Lapse” is so catchy it has great melody, this track is very into the 90’s alternative sound, and the voice has a great performance here; it fits really well to those transitions. “A Song From Below” is simply sublime and entrancing at the beginning. This song is brilliantly constructed; the changes and transitions in the pace of this song are executed with majesty. I’m talking here about this transition from a dream-like soundscape to this stronger guitar-driven sound; this is awesome. Great work here! “Secretly Done” is warm and tasteful; this song has some kind of psychedelic feel, and this is quite possible: Remember the fact that this band has mentioned to The Velvet Underground as one of their influences. “Longing For Distance” is dramatic and has strong feeling; and once more you can perceive this dark-psychedelic sensation. This song has a very intelligent use of transitions; is very interesting.

Sorry, Heels has created two very interesting EPs; and the next step for this band should be a full-length album. They have talent, a well-defined music style, and they are doing great music. This is a very promising new act in the Post Punk scene of The New Millennium.

This is a new four piece band from Italy, and it features two ex-members from Chants Of Maldoror (they were a really remarkable band from this New Millennium) And their sound is very different from that Gothic - Death Rock act. Sorry, Heels is a total new story; their sound is a mixture of Post Punk, Shoe gaze, and it has some influence from the 90’s alternative music. It is a very interesting combination, and definitely they have their own charm. They are writing a new page and this debut EP is really fresh and enjoyable. They mention to bands like: Joy Division, Wire, Velvet Underground, David Bowie, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, The Cult, Killing Joke, Portishead, The Stooges, etc. I Have to say that this is pretty congruent with the musical style displayed in this debut release. This EP called “Waste” can be described with one word: Catchy.

“Sweet Upon My Sorrow” has deep bass lines, and sensual female voice. It goes from captivating passages in the verse, to passion moments in the chorus; the guitar has a Post Punk sound, and the drumming fits very well to the transitions.”A Kiss A Lie” has a very energizing and radiant melody, very into 90’s alternative sound, with a clear influence from Sonic Youth.”Always Wrong” is finely constructed, with a rhythm that makes you move, and the melody is vibrating. The bass lines are conducting all of the transitions here; creating a very interesting (and irresistible) sound. 90’s Alternative sound and Post Punk are loud and clear in “Circling In A Standar Point” the distorted guitars in the background, are this “Sonic Youth touch” to their sound here; and the transitions will blend you with that radiant music, and the positive vibe.

Definitely you will have a great time while listening to this debut release. You can name their sound whatever you want: Alternative-Post Punk, Dark Pop- Post Punk,  etc… At the end of the day, they are very versatile as artists due to the wide range of influences in their music. And they have found a great way to combine those sounds. Check this one, is really good stuff.

Biography
The idea of forming a band called "SORRY, HEELS" comes before having a clear vision of what musical direction to take, and stems from the urgency to play and compose music with passion and honesty, with heart and blood. Early attempts date back to summer 2010 when FABIANO (a/k/a Loren) and DAVID M. both former members of Chants of Maldoror, band active since 1994 and well known in the dark/goth international circuits, decided just for fun to experiment new sounds with the help of several drummers and the vocalist SIMONA.

Since the first rehearsals the new band deliberately chose to move away from what has been done previously and prove their affinity by performing songs of other bands, and the choice lies with names that will surely mark the territory in which they want to move: Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Stooges, Velvet Underground. Following the end of C.o.M. in 2011 and after a short “gestation” period, after which the band is joined by drummer GERRY (former member of Ill Will, Mechanima and La Bastille), SORRY, HEELS begin writing original songs, enriching their sound with new wave and shoegaze elements. May 18, 2013 marks the band’s first official release, the four-tracks EP titled "Wasted", which was recorded and mixed at VDSS Recording Studio by Filippo Strang. SORRY, HEELS are currently working on new material that will make up the true debut album, accompanying the composition and recording activities to as many concerts as possible.
