Biography:
NEW ZERO GOD was formed in 2006 in Athens, Greece, by MIKE POUGOUNAS on vocals and drummer DIMITRIS “Sidheog” STEVES.
As a four piece band, New Zero God released their debut album, “FUN IS A FOUR LETTER WORD”, after supporting The Legendary Pink Dots and Christian Death on stage.
In December, 2010, HARRIS STAVRAKAS joined the band as New Zero God's bassist. Many remember Harris from his days with Pougounas' original band, The Flowers Of Romance, and were thrilled when the announcement was made. Known for his unique bass techniques, the group exploded on stage during their new line-up premier in January 2011. The year was off to a great start! Muen Magazine (USA) had a lengthy article on New Zero God, and the band continued their live performance tour.
During May 2011, singer Mike Pougounas was invited to take part in an international cover release of David Bowie’s “Everyone Says Hi” to benefit England’s ‘The Sophie Lancaster Foundation’ (S.O.P.H.I.E.).
June and July of 2011 brought New Zero God onto the UK radio charts with their song, “KISS THE WITCH”, as cited by the UK’s Dominion Magazine. The band stayed on the UK radio charts for two months, and had a number of interviews and reviews in English, American, German, Italian, and Spanish magazines such as MUEN [USA], CARPE NOCTURNE [USA], DOMINION [UK], and TERRORIZER [UK], to name but a few.
On December 22, 2011, the song “SECOND CHANCE” was released as a Special Edition single under the moniker of NEW ZERO GOD & FRIENDS. Written by Dimitris “Sidheog” Steves and Mike Pougounas, a number of international musicians joined the members of New Zero God for the charity fundraiser to benefit the American foundation, H.A.W.C. (Healing Abuse, Working for Change). “Second Chance” remained at the #1 spot on the USA’s CD Baby Goth and Glam charts for the whole of January, 2012.
Songs by New Zero God were featured on compilations by England’s DEVOLUTION MAGAZINE (August 2011) THE BLACKOUT CRYPTHOLOGY (April 2012), as well as Germany’s GOTHIC VISION III, and America’s LOLLIPOP MAGAZINE (Fall 2009).
On July 4, 2012, New Zero God saw the release of "Club Bizarre" [Secret Sin Records, UK]. This 7-track Limited-Edition Collector's EP was released with hand-made packaging, was hand-numbered, and production was limited to 100 copies. It also came with autographed inlays by the band members of New Zero God, and featured the new exclusive UK-release track, "Widow's Walk". The CD sold out In less than two weeks.
Following on the heels of their UK release, on August 1, 2012, it was announced that LAO had joined New Zero God on guitars. Lao was a Flowers Of Romance member from 1985 to 1990, having been the original guitar player of the songs “Kashmir” and “Autumn Kids”. This new line-up is almost identical to The Flowers Of Romance line-up during their 1987 era. The only exception is for New Zero God's original drummer and co-founding member, Dimitris "Sidheog" Steves, who continues to be part of the backbone of the band's powerhouse status.
